Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Monday that Hezbollah will vote in favor of the bill to lower the voting age at the Parliament, stressing that the issue would not create a conflict within the opposition, adding that no tension would take place in the case the bill was withdrawn under the request of the Free Patriotic Movement.
Speaking to Al-Intiqad website, Sheikh Qassem stressed that the opposition was strong and consistent, stressing that remaining firm was in the interest of the opposition’s various constituents. His eminence confirmed that Hezbollah was sparing every possible effort to reduce tension between the opposition members, noting that differences in points of view were normal. “The important is to agree on the majority of issues and causes and to agree on a mechanism to prevent any political conflict,” his eminence added.
Sheikh Qassem emphasized that Hezbollah doesn’t have any problem with holding municipal elections on time but said his group has also no problem with postponing the elections in case different groups reach consensus to do so.
“What happened in Bristol was a meeting to commemorate the anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in February 14 from the part of a group that believes it has the right to commemorate the anniversary this way,” Sheikh Qassem said, in response to a question. “They are free to decide whatever they want and therefore we cannot be asked if we would attend or not,” his eminence added. “Perhaps, circumstances would change in the future and new mechanisms would be set out.”
Asked about Hezbollah promise to avenge the assassination of its military commander Hajj Imad Moghniyyeh, Sheikh Qassem said that the Zionists know that Hezbollah doesn’t speak only, rather it speaks and acts. “We didn’t specify the timing and location but we believe we’re responsible of accomplishing our promise at the appropriate time,” his eminence stressed.
Sheikh Qassem concluded his interview by noting that the Israelis are still living the obsession of martyr Moghniyyeh and emphasizing that they are worried of a revenge that would come at a time they don’t want and with results they can’t stand.
