Gaza Freedom Marchers Take Part In Cairo’s Journalist Syndicate Protest

Members of the Gaza Freedom March were invited by Egyptian citizens to take part in a protest against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s “wall of shame”,the following video documents a massive and extensive protest which lasted hours. I recall heading towards the Journalist Syndicate in the early afternoon and leaving a bit after 9:00PM.

A few things must be explained due to the fact that the video does nothing more than showcase the event in brevity.

The protest was set up and coordinated by Egyptians, thus there was a higher chance of them being attacked by riot police so long as they were not around internationals. Our presence was helpful in keeping the Egyptian police from attacking the natives outright.

At the end of the protest it was decided by members of the Gaza Freedom March, along with Egyptians, that we would lead them out of the way of riot police – who were standing directly in front of the steps of the Syndicate as you shall soon take notice of.

I managed to grab hold of 3 Egyptian students I met during my stay in Cairo and we walked out from behind the barricades and towards their homes in order to make sure they made it there safely.

It was an immensely moving protest for all those who had the honor of taking part in it.
