Victims Of Veterans Day

Today  in the United States of America we spend the morning,afternoon and evening honoring Veterans: From marching bands which play military arrangements to the Junior ROTC parades which go on from the morning hours until mid-afternoon and finally late-night news broadcasts displaying a macabre of nationalism.

Today,Novemeber 11th 2009,we ‘honor’ our Veterans while glorifying war.

Here come the eye-rolls and accusations of being cynical, simply because the apathetic masses refuse to question all of these federal holidays which have been instituted,what they mean,when they were created and why.
President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an
Armistice Day to be celebrated on November 11th, 1919.
The United States Congress passed a proportionate resolution seven years later on June 4, 1926, requesting the President issue another proclamation to observe November 11 with
“appropriate ceremonies”. Later ,during the late 1930′s, the 11th of November in each year was approved as being alegal holiday;

“a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day’.”

In th early 1950′s we see that the world “Armistice” was then replaced with the word “Veteran’s”,why?
A shoe owner from Emporia,Kansas named Al King began a campaign to turn Armistice Day into “All” Veterans Day and “with the help of then-U.S. Rep. Ed Rees, a bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954.”

We went from honoring the Armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne and world peace to publicizing and venerating the role of men and women in the armed forces.

I pose a refreshing representation that will instead honor those who have been persecuted and oppressed by miltary officials: Victims of Veterans Day.

  • To those who have died due to imperialist wars in Iraq,Afghanistan,Pakistan et al.
  • To those living under colonialist rule which is paid for by being looted out of our taxes.
  • To those who have been preemptively labeled ‘collateral damage’ in order to make whatever conscious the masses have left rest easy at night.
  • To those who live under occupation in Palestine,Iraq,Afghanistan et al

Today I do not honor the soldiers and men/women in uniform - no – today I honor peace and the innocent men,women and children having to die due to 21st century Western Colonialism.

Today,I honor the victims of Veterans Day.
