Lebanon’s 66th celebration of it’s Independence Day is today,November 22nd 2009 . It is a day in which the Lebanese remember and commemorate their liberation from the French Mandate which was imposed over Lebanese soil for over 23 years.
Lebanon has not only been occupied by foreign entities but attacked by them as well, most recently -the illegal state of Israel- during the 2006 July war wherein the Zionist entity attacked after Hezb’Allah captured two Israeli soldiers who had tried to illegally enter Lebanese soil.
After the 2006 war, which wrought havoc on Lebanese architecture and livelihood, the country is back on its feet thanks (in majority) to the resistance group of Hezb’Allah which has not only helped in the rebuilding of roads, mosques, and schools but also homes of Lebanese citizens which were pock-marked and destroyed during the July war during which Israel indiscriminately targeted the civilian populace.
Instead of talking about war I want to show Lebanon on a more personal level through pictures – some which were sent in by my readers- this is my way of commemorating Lebanon’s independence.
May your cedars always stand strong and may your resistance live on, Happy Independence Day Lebanon.
