Israel Strikes At Khan Younis & Rafah

The Israel Air Force struck smuggling tunnels along the Gaza-Egypt border late Wednesday night, a day after Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a Qassam rocket into the western Negev.
The IDF Spokesman’s Office reported that the IAF planes also attacked a nearby structure believed to have served as a weapons facility near the Gaza town of Khan Younis.
Palestinian sources said three people were hurt in the attack, which they claimed also targeted a military training compound.
The IDF report also indicated that strike was carried out in response to a Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip early Wednesday, and which landed in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, in the Western Negev.
“The strikes are in response to continued recent rocket firing into Israel from the Gaza Strip. In the past month some 15 rockets have been fired into Israel,” the IDF Spokesman’s Office said.
Late last week, the IDF as well Palestinian medical workers reported that Israeli soldiers had shot and killed a Palestinian and wounded at least one other in a confrontation near a Gaza Strip border crossing.
An IDF spokeswoman said the troops opened fire at Palestinians suspected of placing explosives near a security fence. One died of injuries, a second was taken to hospital and three others were seized.
The fatality was the first since August along the tense border of the coastal territory ruled by Hamas Islamists that has remained largely quiet since the Israeli offensive that ended in January.
Gaza medics said they retrieved the body of one Palestinian after the incident at the Karni crossing in central Gaza, and that Israel had picked up another Palestinian who appeared to them to have been wounded critically.
Hamas police described those shot at on Friday as youths who had gone to the area near a Gaza border fence with Israel to hunt for dogs, but did not say whether they were armed.
Following the border incident, Palestinian militants in Gaza fired a Qassam rocket into southern Israel. The attack caused neither injuries nor property damage.

These “smuggling tunnels” between the outside world and Gaza bring in an array of items, and (unlike what the main-stream media tells us) they are not always weapons – a majority of the items being ‘smuggled’ into Gaza are necessities such as food and fuel. Due to the siege on Gaza not only have the Palestinians suffered without food but also medical supplies; they are dying to survive while living under Israeli occupation.This winter will be a cold one for the Palestinians,especially those living in tents after their own homes were pillaged to make way for illegal Israeli settlers.
Those living in Gaza suffer without heat,electricity and food – they are literally caged inside with no way out.
Israel complains about rockets while they rape and bomb the Palestinians,no matter where they run to (i.e. UN buildings,schools,mosques) – they have no right to complain when the starving masses strike back,especially when their rockets do not even harm any Israeli citizens.
When you occupy land which is not yours and refuse to allow the indigenous population to eat and keep warm at night do not complain about flimsy rockets made by the suffering prisoners of your occupation.
If you keep my family from eating I will dig as many tunnels into my land as I wish in order to feed them. If you keep my loved ones from feeling warm in the winter-time I will break as many walls in order to cover their cold limbs.
And if you bomb my land and my people I will strike back.
THIS is how "awful" those rockets REALLY are, when no TV cameras are about ……

A Wedding in Ashdod during the War with Hamas

Question: Is it permissible to travel to a wedding in Ashdod (in Southern Israel) which is in range of the Kassam and Grad rockets or is it forbidden based on the commandment of "You shall surely safeguard your soul" (Devarim 4:15, 23:11)?
Answer: It is permissible. There is a clear distinction in Halachah between a high-probability danger and a low-probability danger. If this were not the case, we would not be able to travel in a car since every year, to our great distress, six hundred people are killed in car accidents in Israel. Many more people have been killed in car accidents since the establishment of the State of Israel than all of the Kassam rockets and all of the terrorist attacks and all of the wars, even when they are added together. We nonetheless travel in cars, obviously with the required cautions, since this is called "a non-frequent damage" in Halachah (Pesachim 8b). In our time there are statistical tools to verify the frequency of a danger. There is a halachic responsum on this subject by Ha-Gaon Ha-Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein, Rabbi of "Ramat Elchanan" (neighborhood in Bnei Brak). A student was learning in a yeshiva in "Yesha" (Yehudah, Shomron or Gush Katif) and his parents were concerned about the danger. Rav Zilberstein proves that "a frequent damage" is five percent. This means that if – G-d forbid – five percent of the students of the yeshiva were murdered, it would be forbidden to learn in that yeshiva. This is obviously far from reality – Baruch Hashem – since the Kassam and Grad rockets are not killing five percent of the population. In fact, Ha-Gaon Ha-Rav Yitzchak Isaac Herzog in Shut Heichal Yitzchak proves based on Shut Rabbi Akiva Eiger (#60) that a frequent danger is not five percent, but one in a thousand, but – Baruch Hashem – Kassam and Grad rockets are not killing one in a thousand people either.
Furthermore, it is permissible to take a "small risk" for the sake of a mitzvah and bringing joy to a groom and bride is a mitzvah. The Tiferet Yisrael discusses this principle on the Mishnah in Massechet Berachot at the end of chapter one. There is a story about Rabbi Tarfon who said the Shema at night while reclining according to the view of Beit Shammai. He endangered himself while doing so and the Sages admonished him for following the view of Beit Shammai instead of Beit Hillel. But the question remains: Why did Rabbi Tarfon endanger himself, since reciting the Shema is not in the category of "Be killed and do not transgress," i.e. requiring one to sacrifice his life for its fulfillment? The Tiferet Yisrael explains that it was permissible since there was only a small risk of danger. There is an additional proof from when Rabbi Akiva was in jail, and he used the water he received for "netilat yadayim" (ritually washing his hands) instead of for drinking. The halachic authorities ask: How could Rabbi Akiva endanger his life for this practice? The answer is that Rabbi Akiva understood that he would obtain more water, the danger he was taking was extremely minute and it is permissible to take a small risk for a mitzvah. This is also the ruling found in "Pitchei Teshuvah" (Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah 157).
In conclusion:
a. A non-frequent danger is not considered a danger according to Halachah and the danger in Ashdod is a non-frequent one.
b. It is permissible to take a minimal risk for a mitzvah and bringing joy to a groom and bride is a mitzvah.

1/Yes, Albert, it is permissable, and not because relative risk has been weighed and found to be acceptable but because there was/is no risk at all of rockets landing from Gaza into the Jewish State, for in January this year while Operation Cast Lead was in progress parties of war tourists came to Parash Hill, just within 2kms of the Gaza border, enjoying hot and cold drinks while they bemusedly watched enormous plumes of earth and shattered buildings – and no doubt body parts too, erupting just on the other side in Gaza from 250lb air dropped bombs.Not the slightest thought of danger crossed any of their relaxed smiling faces as they stood totally unprotected watching the display put on by the IAF, perhaps just for them, as by that time there was really nothing left to bomb in Gaza, just methodical levelling from the air for something to do.
Not a single rocket comes out of Gaza. Ask MK Gilad Erdan who a year ago said that an open air enclosure be built to house terrorists so that the rockets can fall on them.What does this prove on its own ? That Hamas fires its rockets onto that designated vacant field ? If it was Hamas it obviously wouldn't do it as the rockets never kill anyone, and would only invite deadly retaliation, but because Hamas is Shin Bet it won't say that the Israelis are lying, for as we saw during Operation Cast Lead the rockets shown by the Israelis as having been launched by Hamas were too much like crumpled drainpipes. Again, Hamas knows how crucially effective in saving Palestinian lives it would be to refute the glib Israeli assertion that Palestinian militants fire rockets into Israel; but Hamas being Shin Bet is interested only in giving Israel the faux provocation it needs to murder Palestinians at will or en mass, and so never engages in verbal fisticuffs with the Israelis about their ludicrous claims that rockets are launched by Palestinian militants.
2/ Yet, we were daily told of `thousands` or `hundreds` of Hamas rockets being launched into southern Israel. This was a huge PR blunder on the part of the IDF in allowing these parties of war tourists to go there as it proved that there never was any danger of rockets, accurate or not, coming out of Gaza.What the Jewish State did was commit mass murder, totally unprovoked, on a totally defenceless Gaza people.
